April 23: Dane Bahr on The Dead Ringer

On Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 7 pm, Phinney Books welcomes back Dane Bahr from Bellingham to celebrate the release of his third novel, The Dead Ringer. He’ll be in conversation with Seattle novelist Thomas Kohnstamm, author, most recently of Supersonic.

Old Phinney folks might remember that before he moved up to Bellingham, Dane Bahr was the publisher of Dock Street Press and the irrepressible host of our regular Dock Street reading series. We miss both Dane and the series, and we are delighted not only that he has gone from being a publisher to an acclaimed novelist, but that he has celebrated the release of each of his novels—The Houseboat, Stag, and now The Dead Ringer—with a visit back to our store.

His new novel takes his hard-boiled style back to Montana in the 1930s, following a man left for dead who embarks on a blistering path of vengeance and, perhaps, redemption. Kirkus Reviews has already given it a starred review, calling it “a raw, biblically heated tale” and “The best novel yet by a powerfully original artist.”
